For my project, I painted on unprimed linen, which accepts black pigment in a way that gesso-primed canvas doesn’t. I love black pigment because it contains a sense of Korean sentimentality. I wet the canvas and let the black color travel by itself, staining the surface. Colors take on new depths as they blend with the black color, creating a comforting harmony of shades. The colors on the canvas appear tranquil, which comforts me.

New Paragraph

'VOID' is an empty space without a fixed value. However, this 'empty' space-time of the "void" represents an open relationship, different from 'absence' or 'emptiness.' If the collective relationship referred to as 'agent' is the 'void,' it will form a coexistence relationship between elements that constitute a set based on the assumption of a mathematical existence as a 'multiple,' as Alain Badiou has stated. This empty set may be in a state that cannot be manifested, but it creates a gap between the binary relationship of existence and non-existence, or 1 and 0, leading to a relation of infinite terms that are 'uncountable' or 'not specified,' rather than a linear relationship connected to a strong center. Therefore, those who advocate the 'void' will reveal this 'being' by producing relationships among the living objects of true void, 'creations,' instead of existing or being recorded as an immutable entity of the 'fixed author.’

“Amor Fati”,
painting series
3rd Solo Show
2022

“Amor Fati”, my painting series started with “ Dangsan Tree” - a guardian tree of a village. The tree standing in front of my hometown scared me as a child.
But one day, when I grew up, the tree came to me as an embodied spirituality.
People in my town used to pray to the tree for their wishes and comfort.
For so long, they believed the tree has protected them from diseases and disasters. Whether it rained, snowed, or is windy, the tree stood there, wearing colorful fabric ribbons.
The tree taught me to wait. The tree has made me comfortable and confident. Looking up the tree, I came up with the phrase, “ Nietzsche’s Amor Fati”
