I believe that creating art is a journey.
While I enjoy my art, I can escape from my real life and travel to a new world.
My journey starts in stillness.
In a world full of aesthetic voices, I need to choose to step away from the noise.
In order to immerse myself in art, I don’t need to escape my life. A perfect tranquility helps me to fall into my art.
If I’m surrounded by nature that I can observe, I’d be more than happy.
On the canvas, I capture each moment, blending colors as if weaving silence.
After I spend enough time observing my subject,
I accumulate the moments of the space. I pick up colors, get colors, and apply the colors on the canvas. I paint images of serenity.
For my project, I painted on unprimed linen, which accepts black pigment in a way that gesso-primed canvas doesn’t.
I love black pigment because it contains a sense of Korean sentimentality.
I wet the canvas and let the black color travel by itself, staining the surface.
Colors take on new depths as they blend with the black color, creating a comforting harmony of shades.
The colors on the canvas appear tranquil, which comforts me. I paint tranquility.
